There hasn't been much in the way of online alternate reality communitys. That is untill now! GreyDoorBooks.com launched last week and its a fantastic Bookstore and community for Sci-Fi and Fantasy Fans.
GreyDoorBooks is a Sydney Based Startup, so id encourage you to buy a book and support Sydney Entrepeneurs.

Here is a great video from authors@google from Jessica Livingston.
Jessica is one of the founding partners of Y-Combinator, a really innovative early stage tech venture capital firm who has funded reddit (who sold to conde-nast/wiredmagazine) , kiko and more than 30 web startups in 3 years and who wrote the book, Founders at Work.
In her book Jessica interviews startup founders from paypal, hotornot, hotmail, google, blogger, apple computers, viaweb and 30 other highly successful web and tech startups.
I bought the book a few months ago, and whilst i had read most of it, i really enjoyed this video from google as it condenses the best bits of the book into a 35 minute talk.
If you are interested in how to start a successful startup, i would totally suggest watching jessica speaking at google. (the first 5 mins are slow, but she really gets into some great insights for startup founders in her talk)

Just stumbled across a great Aussie startup MyInvites.com.au.
Its a wonderful little tool for taking care of events, invitations and RSVP lists.
MyInvites generates some pretty sweet looking invitations, and also tracks and manages all your RSVP's.
If you do corporate events for a living this is a must for your toolbox, and if your having a party or organizing a reunion or farewell party, MyInvites is bloody brilliant!

Can you get your idea to spread?
If you can figure out how to get your ideas to spread - you will be successful. Regardless of if you run a coffee shop or are in business or run scientific research or are flying hot air baloons.
We are living in a centuary of idea diffusion. People who can spread ideas, regardless of what those ideas are, WIN.
In the past TV was at the heart of spreading ideas, many of these ideas from TV formed part of our childhood, (aka the tv-industrial complex).
Things have changed.
