5 Simple Tips to Successful Web Designs

Shifted Pixels are web design experts. We have provided 5 tips and recommendations for successful website designs.
  1. Navigation – make sure your website is easy to navigate by creating clear, concise links to each page from the main homepage, and also create links between pages within your website that contain related content. For example if you have an ‘About Us’ section detailing what services/products your company provides, make sure you create links in this page to the other relevant pages containing information about your prices, services or product catalogues, so that visitors can easily find out more if they want to.
  2. Layout – Most Internet users are very experienced at visiting websites. Most visitors will literally scan a website in a few seconds and decide instantly if they want to stay and learn more or move on. It is therefore vitally important that the layout is attractive and easy to read, and free from clutter or too many adverts. Messy, unorganised websites will put people off immediately, as will websites that have more adverts than content.
  3. Loading Times – increasingly thanks to broadband, the internet is faster but not everyone will have quick loading times, so it is important that you minimise your website file sizes (graphics, photos, flash etc) so that your loading times are quick for all users (particularly with the take up of your smart phones – this has become very important). People simply will not visit your website if it is too slow and takes longer that a few seconds to load up each page.
  4. Social aspect – a good way to try and encourage visitors to stay longer on your site and visit again in the future is to set up social media functions such as blogs and forums.
  5. Browser Compatibility – not everyone uses Microsoft Internet Explorer, so make sure your website is compatible with all browsers available, including the latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome etc

Another Stroke of Marketing Genious

If you remember around 26 odd years ago Apple released the Macintosh computer, doing so using a revolutionary advertisement which its only daytime televised broadcast was on January 22, 1984 during the third quarter of Super Bowl XVIII.  It was created by Steve Hayden, Brent Thomas and Lee Clow at Chiat/Day, Venice, produced by New York production company Fairbanks Films, and directed by Ridley Scott. Anya Major, at the time no other advertisements had ever thought to involve film writers, creators and directors or have a budget as large as this at $900,000

The advertisement which had no real connection to a computer and didn’t mention a single feature of the new technology being released but created such a stir in the community it created millions of dollars worth of media exposure.

If you haven’t seen the advertisement watch it below:

Valve has just announced that it will be releasing Half Life 2 a first-person shooter first released in 2004 in PC only to critical acclaim and largely considered to be a landmark title onto the Mac platform, to do so they have tried to take off the success of the original advertisement and remake it using characters from the game.

Watch the recreated commercial here:

A fantastic online marketing opportunity which I am sure will create a lot of viral success in the mac community.
